APM (Advanced Power Management) - Definition
APM is a system feature that enables computers to use power more conservatively and more efficiently as the hardware in a computer will work together to reduce power consumption. APM was developed by Intel and Microsoft. It’s original purpose was directed at extending battery life in portable computers, but is now also used in desktop systems. For instance, on laptop computers, APM can turns off power to the display after a preset period of inactivity to conserve electrical power and extend battery usage.
