Archive File - Definition
An Archive File is a collection of files that have been compressed and then stored into a single file. It is a file that contains one or more compressed files. Most archive formats are also capable of storing folders with all their included files. in order to reconstruct the exact file/folder relationship when decompressed. Examples of Archive Files include ZIP, RAR, LHA, ARK and so on. Although archive files may remain on the same computer, they are typically stored in a secondary location for backup and historical purposes.
