Asynchronous - Definition
Asynchronous means not synchronous; not occurring or existing at the same time or having the same period or phase. An example would be in digital communications between computers on a network where there is no timing requirement for transmissions and in which the start of data being sent is individually signaled by the transmitting device. Hence, the occurrence of two or more processes at different times.
