AVI (Audio Video Interleave) - Definition
AVI is an abbreviation for Audio Video Interleave. It is a multimedia format introduced by Microsoft as part of its Video for Windows technology. AVI files can contain both audio and video data in a standard container that allows synchronous (happening at the same time) audio with video playback. Files in this format will contain the .AVI file extension. AVI files are actually limited to 320 x 240 resolution, and 30 frames per second, neither of which is really adequate for full-screen, full-motion video.
