Background - Definition
Background is the screen background image used on a Graphical User Interface (GUI) such as Microsoft Windows. Any pattern or picture that can be stored as a bitmap (.bmp) file can be set as a screen background. When referring to multitasking operating systems, a Background is an active program currently running but not seen on the computer. For example, a user may open and play an audio file and then minimize it and work on something else while still being able to listen to his or her music.
