Bot - Definition
Bot is probably short for Robot. In the world of Web searching, Bots are also called Spiders and Crawlers. They explore the World Wide Web by retrieving a document and following all the hyperlinks in the document. Then the Bots generate catalogs that can be easily accessed by search engines. Popular search engines like Alta Vista, Excite, Google, Lycos and Yahoo use this method to generate catalogs.
