Have you ever wanted to insert trade mark notices or even copyright symbols into your documents? Well Microsoft provided us with a Character Map so we can insert these special characters as well as many others. We can even use the Character Map to insert a happy face symbol to give our documents that Special Pizzazz. This technical brief will show you how to Insert Special Characters into your documents.
For Windows XP
- Begin by first clicking on the Start Button.
- Then move your mouse over the All Programs icon to display all Start Menu folders.
- If your Start Menu is set to the Classic View, move your mouse over the Programs folder instead.
- Now, move your mouse onto the Accessories menu folder until it expands.
- Then move your mouse onto the System Tools menu folder until it expands.
- Now Click on the Character Map icon to launch the Character Map program.
- In the Font: list, choose a font (type face) that you would like to use.
- Now Double click on each character that you would like to insert into your document.
- Notice how the Characters to copy: box fills up with all your selected characters.
- Then click on the Copy button on the right side of the screen.
- This action sends your characters to the clipboard so they can be easily pasted.
- You can go ahead and close the Character Map by clicking on the X in the right hand corner.
- Now go to your document and click your mouse where you want the characters to appear.
- Then click on the word Edit, which is contained in your top tool bar area.
- This will pull down a menu for you to now click on Paste.
- Notice how your Character(s) are now inserted into your document.
For Windows 98 And Windows Millennium
- Begin by first clicking on the Start Button.
