A Chip is another name for an integrated circuit. It is a very small electronic component that is comprised of thousands of transistors, each forming a complex circuit capable of processing and storing very large quantities of information. These cells then work as the building block for a computer’s circuitry and computer’s functions. There are many different types of chips. For example, a CPU (microprocessor) contains an entire processing unit, whereas memory chips contain blank memory ready to be written to.
