DSP (Digital Signal Processor) - Definition
DSP is an abbreviation for Digital Signal Processor. It is a specialized microprocessor that is optimized for performing the complex mathematical calculations inherent in processing digital signals, generally in real time computing. Although, digital signal processing can be performed by the Central Processing Unit (CPU), a digital signal processor does contain architectural optimizations specifically designed to speed up processing. These optimizations are also important to lower costs, heat emission and power consumption.
