Infrared - Definition
Infrared (IR) is light that is beyond red in the color spectrum. While the light is not visible to the human eye, infrared transmitters and receivers can send and receive infrared signals. It uses this invisible beam of light to transmit a pre-programmed line-of-sight signal to electronic components such as computer peripherals and personal digital assistants. Its typical use involves wireless devices such as a TV remote controller. Infrared does not penetrate walls so it does not interfere with other devices in adjoining rooms.
