Internet Information Services (IIS) - Definition
Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS - formerly called Server) is a set of Internet-based services for servers using Microsoft Windows. It is the world’s second most popular web server in terms of overall websites. It supports Web site creation, configuration, and management, along with other Internet functions. Internet Information Services include Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP), File Transfer Protocol (FTP), and Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) and Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP).
