An IP Address is a series of numbers (e.g., 206.112.134.21) denoting a specific computer in a network or on the Internet. Each URL represents the more memorable form of an IP address. The series of four numbers are sometimes referred to as a “dotted quad.” The abbreviation IP stands for Internet Protocol which is a set of compatibility agreements that makes communication over the Internet possible. You can think of an IP address similar to a street address or a phone number for a computer or other network device on the Internet. Just as each street address and phone number uniquely identifies a building or telephone, an IP address can uniquely identify a specific computer or other network device on a network.
