How To Adjust Your Modem’s Sound Volume

Each modem has different volumes. In some cases, you can adjust that modem’s voice setting. In some cases, you cannot. For instance, If you have a 3Com US Robotics Modem, some of these models cannot be set to very loud. You might experience that even though you have maximized every control you could find, the audio is still soft. If it is unacceptable, we suggest you pick up a different qualified voice modem.

For Windows XP

  1. Go into your Control Panel by first clicking on the Start Button.
  2. Then click on the Control Panel icon located in the right column of the Start Menu.
  3. If your Start Menu is set to the Classic View, then begin by clicking on the Start Button.
  4. Then click on Settings, then click on the Control Panel icon to open up the Control Panel.
  5. Now, Double click on the Phone and Modem Options icon until it opens.
  6. Now click on the Modems tab at the top of the screen.
  7. Then click on the Properties button at the bottom right hand side of the screen.
  8. Now click on the Modem tab at the top of the screen.
  9. In the top center of the screen you will see the Speaker volume slider bar.
  10. Adjust this volume slider bar according to your personal preferences.
  11. Then click on the OK button to save your settings and exit the Modem properties window.
  12. Then close all open windows to return back to your Windows session.
  13. Then repeat the above procedure for any additional Dial-Up Connections you have.

For Windows 98 And Windows Millennium

  1. Go into your Control Panel by first clicking on the Start Button.
  2. Then click on Settings and then click on the Control Panel icon.
  3. Then double click on the Dial-Up Networking folder until it opens.
  4. Now highlight one of your Dial-Up Connection Icons by gently clicking on it.
  5. Then click on the word File, which is contained in your top tool bar area.
  6. This will pull down a menu for you to now click on Properties.
  7. Now click on the Configure button at the lower right hand corner of the screen.
  8. In the center of the screen you will see the Speaker volume slider bar.
  9. Adjust this volume slider bar according to your personal preferences.
  10. Then click on the OK button to save your settings and exit the Modem Properties window.
  11. Then close all open windows to return back to your Windows session.
  12. Then repeat the above procedure for any additional Dial-Up Connections you have.
