Sometimes the printer that we are always used to printing to is no longer set as default. Fax software program often try to assign their printer driver to act as the default printer. Therefore, this technical brief will show you how to set your printer back to being used as the default if it is no longer listed as such.
For Windows XP
- Go into your Control Panel by first clicking on the Start Button.
- Then click on the Control Panel icon located in the right column of the Start Menu.
- If your Start Menu is set to the Classic View, then begin by clicking on the Start Button.
- Then click on Settings, then click on the Control Panel icon to open up the Control Panel.
- Now, Double click on the Printers and Faxes icon to open up the full listing of printers.
- Now move your mouse over the Printer you want as Default and press the Right Mouse Button.
- Now Click on the Set as Default Printer menu choice to assign it as your Default printer.
- Windows will place a check mark above this printer indicating it is now the Default printer.
- Now close the open listing of Printers and Faxes window to return back to your Windows session.
For Windows 98 And Windows Millennium
- Go into your Control Panel by first clicking on the Start Button.
- Then click on Settings and then click on the Control Panel icon.
- Double click on the Printers icon to open up the full listing of printers.
- Now move your mouse over the Printer you want as Default and press the Right Mouse Button.
- Now Click on the Set as Default Printer menu choice to assign it as your Default printer.
- Windows will place a check mark above this printer indicating it is now the Default printer.
- Now close the open listing of printers window to return back to your Windows session.
