PING (Packet Internet Groper) - Definition
PING is an abbreviation for Packet Internet Groper. It is a computer network tool utility used to determine whether a particular computer is currently connected to the Internet. It works by sending a packet to the specified IP address and then waiting for a reply. The computer acronym PING was contrived to match the submariners’ term for the sound of a returned sonar pulse.
