Windows Vista™ includes a security feature known as User Account Control (UAC). It can help you prevent unauthorized changes to your computer. It works by prompting you for permission when a task requires administrative rights, such as installing software or changing settings that affect other users. Microsoft recommends leaving UAC on. If you did turn it off, here is how to turn it back on.
To Turn On And Enable Windows Vista User Account Control
- Click the Start button located in the lower-left corner of the Windows Vista desktop.
- Then click on Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel, click on User Accounts and Family Safety.
- Then click on User Accounts.
- Now click Turn User Account Control on or off.
- If you are prompted for a password or confirmation, enter it or provide confirmation.
- Check the box next to Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer.
- By Checking this box, User Account Control will be turned on.
- Then click on OK to apply the settings.
- Windows Vista will then prompt you to reboot your computer.
Note: Enabling User Account Control will lead to a more secure computer system.
